Trip to Dubuque, IA – Sustainability Working Group
On Tuesday, April 25, 2017, the Sustainability Working Group, an ad hoc group of local community leaders committed to sustainability, will be taking a trip to Dubuque, IA to meet with that city’s staffers involved in their Sustainability efforts. We will also tour the Bee Branch Creek Project – Dubuque’s $200 million, 39-year effort to mitigate flooding from their Bee Branch Creek. This project and the conditions it is addressing is very much like our own community’s Keith Creek situation so we intend to learn as much as we can about how they did their project.
The group will leave Katie’s Cup at 10 a.m. on April 25. Lunch (on your own) at noon in Dubuque. Meet Dubuque city staffers (perhaps including their mayor) at 1 p.m. We expect that meeting and the tour of the Bee Branch Creek to last 3 hours – so until 4 p.m. Be home around 6-7 p.m.
At present the group has 7 people going in two cars. If more people plan to attend, they may arrange for a 15-passenger van. There is no charge for the trip, but giving something to the driver(s) may be a nice idea, though (such as assisting with gas money).
Although this event is not being put on by Rockford Midtown District Association, we are sharing and posting information about it here for those who would be interested in sharing it or attending it due to its relevance to Keith Creek, which runs through part of the Midtown District. For more information, please contact Brad Roos-phone: 815-968-4041 or email – please also share this event with your Facebook friends!
