Midtown District Inc. (better known as Midtown District Association) is an association of Business Owners, Building Owners, Residents, Organizations, and Individuals dedicated to the interests of the Midtown District Area. We have been entrusted with helping in Economic Business Development Support, Educational Advancement, Entrepreneurial Support, Beautification, and of being the common face and informational resource for our area. Our Mission states that we promote economic, social, and cultural development within the business and residential communities of Rockford’s geographical area known as “Midtown District.” Incorporated in October of 2008, our vision is the reality of Midtown District as a “Neighborhood of Choice” offering a safe and desirable place to live, work, and to operate a business. It is also the intention of our district to create an enjoyable and useful area for visitors. We have been working hard to represent the needs and best interests of our community and we welcome your comments, questions and ideas.
The Midtown District extends just north of East State Street to 9th Avenue on the south, and from Kishwaukee Street on the west to 11th Street on the east. It has many historical buildings including the old train depot and The Lantow Building which now houses the “Lantow Lofts” upscale condos. Midtown also includes larger community stakeholders: Swedish American Hospital, U.S. Bank, BMO/Harris Bank, and the headquarters for Rockford Public Schools District 205. Midtown has long-time local businesses that are an integral part of our neighborhood: Nicholson’s Hardware and Lawn & Garden, Guler Appliance, Benson Stone, Office Outfitters, Katie’s Cup, NorthWest Quarterly Magazine, Phoenix Traders, JustGoods, Warren’s Auto, I Spinello Locksmiths, Morning Glory Restaurant, Hai-Quynh, Lung Fung, Uncle Nick’s Restaurant, Oasis Micro-Pub, and many other great businesses. We are the one of the last truly neighborhood business districts left in Rockford, having many locally and family owned businesses mixed with residences.
Midtown District also has opportunities for community members to help on committees and special projects. We hold that community involvement is key in the process of moving forward together. In fact, the board looks at itself as the instruments of the community’s movements, needs and visions and we look for ideas, talent and energy from the community itself.
Midtown District Inc. has an office at 203 7th Street; this is a shared space that gives us wonderful benefits for the board and the community. We are happy to have some visibility and permanence for our records and supplies; doing this was in response to the community asking where we could be found and how we could be contacted. Please feel free to stop by or contact us with any concerns, ideas and needs you may have; we are dedicated to helping you get information and/or help that you may need. Our office contains many handouts and informational materials pertaining to our district and to programs which might be helpful to businesses and residents. We hope you will also feel free to explore with us how you might be able to contribute in some way.
Midtown District holds Board Meetings at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month.
